Creativity is something that is incorporated into my everyday routine, it’s my playground, a place where ‘work and play’ can be said in the same sentence. Through design I am able to channel my huge passion for sport into my work.

With a penchant for design and sport I have used social media as my platform to showcase and promote my work, this has resulted in freelance jobs, work placements as well as building a global fan-base my work.

This book is about Chinese food culture. China is a vast country with a splendid catering culture. So my idea is introduce unique food culture of each place on the Chinese map.

In this book design, I make extensive use of the representative of Chinese characteristics “Propitious Clouds” as the background element and, in each of the different chapters, I put food as a representative of the design elements used to decorate each page. Because the book is bilingual, I designed a Chinese character calligraphy font capturing Chinese culture, and also, English letters have different design details.

My Final Major Project was inspired by a artist called Linder; her work showed how women get represented in the media.

By giving them lipsticks, television sets, distorted mouths, household appliances, as body parts I wanted to show in my work that these images of women you find in men’s magazines, or even fashion magazines, are fake. Most are airbrushed and have had surgery to enhance them selves so my collages show exactly that.

Since I started the course I’ve tried to experiment with collages and distorting images, which I had started in my second year. I wanted my work to look eye catching allowing people to get my message I’m trying to show in my work.

The inspiration for my Final Major Project is based on personal experience. There is a lack of information available to young people who need mental health services and I wanted to create something practical, yet visually pleasing ,which would capture the interest of a young person. I researched what other Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services have in place; websites, apps, information pack and discovered that there is a disparity in the quality of design.

In consultation with a CAMHS worker, I have produced a product that is fit for purpose: an identifiable brand that is visually appealing to young people. The product is an information pack, which would be sent to the young person before their first appointment with a CAMHS worker, with the addition of an App so clients can access information easily.

BOOST Energy Drinks – YCN Winning Entry 2014

Graphic Design has allowed me to channel my creative side. Ideas race round my head as I start to visualize my statement on new projects. I wonder how I could change, adapt & transform the looks of everyday things.

Before I studied at the University Of Bedfordshire I didn’t know anything about Graphic Design. I have learnt so much & seen so much. However, through hard work and learning the industry on placements & freelance work, this has lead to me Winning a YCN Student Award, and walking into a Junior Graphic Designer Job in London. I love Graphic Design.

The focus of my Final Major Project is the treatment of black peoples in the USA, from slavery to today. Concentrating on the ‘murders’ of predominantly innocent African Americans at the mercy of the US ‘justice system’.

The research for my practice is dominated by the ‘Don’t Shoot’ and ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaigns.

As a black – far too regularly stereotyped – male youth, I was immediately drawn by the prospect of being able to express my interpretations of my opinions on this controversial and often side lined topic.

It is very close to my heart! Some of my work will be considered close to the mark.

The name for my project is Black History Month 2015 (Africa). My project is about mixing graphic design with African Culture. The aim is to show the world that there are a lot of historical influences and creativity in African culture that can be shown through “Art”.

It could be digitally shown through graphic media: photos, designed posters, websites, and could also be expressed through music. I intend to express my understanding of African culture through these forms of media and get viewers to understand the culture. I chose to base my design idea about Ghana since it’s where I was raised and I find the culture inspiring.

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.” - Milton Glaser.

I am about to graduate from University, but my learning journey will never end. I will always aim to learn more through experience, independent study and by attending various courses.

I chose to do application design as my Final Major Project because I am particularly interested in learning different programming languages for web and app development and I thought this could be a good start.

My Final Major Project is an interactive project to get viewers free styling their t-shirts. It is also a branding trend – “Spray your Tee” – that you could contact me if you want a customized t-shirt with whatever design you want.

There will be a variety of other t-shirts that I have designed myself that you could look at on the website to get an idea of the range. Spray your Tee gives you a chance to have a unique t-shirt that no one has or find in a shop. This is also advertising the brand because people will be wondering where you got your t-shirt.

The ‘Pantomime’ theme gave the opportunity to show strong graphical skills for a competition brief last year. I especially enjoyed creating the illustrations of the knotted blanket for the exterior of the pack. Being able to use different elements – photography, illustration, graphic design – and combining them for the final outcome gives a great sense of achievement. I was extremely pleased to receive a Silver Award for this project.

I’ve come a long way since the start of this course and my interests have stemmed into branding, packaging and photography; alongside my previous experience with fashion retail and graphic design for print.

They have always told me that, when you grow up, time flies.

Today, 20th of May 2015, I look back at the past 3 years and I realize how right they were. I have developed my true passion, I have been lucky to enjoy every single second of this journey and I have met amazing people that I will take with me forever. Thanks to everyone that made this possible, it’s been one hell of a ride.

“A mi yo de ayer, lo siento si no fui lo que quisiste ser, te juro que lo hice lo mejor que supe hacer, intenté crecer feliz en este mundo cruel” - Rayden

[To yesterday’s me, sorry if I couldn’t be what you wanted to be, I swear I did it as good as I could, I tried to grow up happy in this cruel world]

I live and breath creativity and now I’m finally satisfied that I am able to say: I have a degree in something that I’ve been so passionate about throughout my life!

Though my studies have been primarily graphic visual communication, my passions extend from there.

Naturally social and curious, I felt the urge to delve into other design subjects and collaborate, allowing me to grow as a versatile creative designer. Exploring this lead me to realise I have a love for fashion graphics.

In essence, my passion is in creativity and its in this subject where I find my solace and am at my happiest when I am able to apply my abilities as a graphic designer.

To really execute design in its higher form and making people feel joy, that is a great reward. Design gives the ability to influence people’s perceptions and interact with them on an emotional level. This is why I design.

After years of exploring art in different sectors, I came across graphic design and decided that this is what I wanted to do. With logo designs extending into to typography. It inspired me to look into different types of typography with different cultures of designing typography: from Times Roman to calligraphy. From there, I looked into calligraphy and how it has impacted the world socially and politically. I took this opportunity to use my skills in calligraphy and express my feelings of the social and political world we live in right now.

I’ve always wanted to design a children’s book since my little brother was born, and with my Final Major Project, it was a perfect opportunity to do so.

I based it on religion, an area where there is a lot of discrimination. The main message behind the book was to accept others, and to learn and respect their cultures. I also researched classic artwork, associated with each of the religions, and used it as inspiration to adapt the graphic style to suit each religion individually.
